Artists: Don’t Be Shy, Sharing Your Story Grows Your Following like Wildfire…

We just opened up our brand spankin’ new Artist Success Series Facebook Group for artists to share their music and story. I wanted to start an experiment to see what would happen if I made it mandatory for artists to share their story and their top 3 defining moments in life that taught them something – what would happen.

In 3 hours we had 300 members and it just keeps expanding as the word gets out. What we’re noticing is the difference between when someone just posts their music or when they post their story and moments that molded them with it. The result is an instant BOND. It connects you to who they are, their challenges and lessons and suddenly they are in your heart. Bam.

The Artist Success Series is a free Facebook Group where artists are supported in revealing their innards (matter of fact they can’t stay on the page unless they do ? ~ Mama Lion here. But what I am preaching, is how it breaks down the façade, and creates that deeper connection – the one you are trying to make – or you want to make if you want to gain true or super fans.

Remember when Oprah shared her story on public television about being raped as a young girl? Her following tripled.

Now it ain’t about airing dirty laundry – it’s how you do it. It’s doing it in an effort to help those in your sphere who also struggled – it has to be genuine or it won’t work. So you may have some work to do here. I highly recommend you join our page first and watch what works and what doesn’t. Watch what artists you are drawn to and what one’s you aren’t. That will help you get your feet wet.

Because it’s tricky. It has to be done in the right way or it comes across as self-serving or opportunistic. Remember when Beyonce all of a sudden did that selfie-video without makeup that revealed stuff and it didn’t fly? It was too drastic of a departure from her buttoned up marketing and private persona and it came across as a “tactic”.

You have to bring your fans along with you – get cozy first. Go slow and start connecting authentically first. Foreplay ?

Join me and a rich community of other dedicated and talented artists and share your story here.
