Hey beautiful artists!! As an artist in today’s climate you most likely circle around from excitement and possibility to frustration, despair, and even devastation only to rise back around to excitement again.
Sound familiar? Yep, it’s a perpetually turning ferris wheel.
But what do you do when you’re on the shadow side of the wheel? When nothing you are doing seems to be working or you stall out or even hit reverse?
The thing is you’ve got to get this one thing straight.
No matter how much you try to change it, once a musician, always a musician. So even when you want to throw in the towel and sit back and have a “normal” life with nights out with friends, movies, sports events, (and even worse) being a spectator at music concerts — you can’t. It’s not like you can have surgery and remove that part of yourself.
So – stop trying to. It’ll just backfire anyway and then you’ll be mad at the time you lost.
Here’s my quick prescription:
- Man / Woman Up. Sometimes you screw up. Matter of fact, if you’re ever to become successful you’re going to screw up a lot. Get used to it. Success is built on a million failures. The quicker you accept them (and not punish yourself for them), the sooner you can move on. And the more you do it, the quicker the turn around time is. Get good at fessing up and then get help (see #2).
- Knowledge is power.
